My name is Sarah Rockwell. I am currently a triple major in Biology, General Science, and Secondary Education. I am also obtaining a Middle School Endorsement which will be completed by May of 2012. Since 2009 I have worked in a research laboratory at the Geological Siences and Oceanology department in URI's Narragansett Bay Campus. Science has been a love of my and a sincere passion since the days of my primary education. My goal by the fall of 2012 is to teach Science at the Middle School level.
Before attending the University of Rhode Island, I had recieved my Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development from the Community College of Rhode Island. Prior to, and during that process, I acquired 4 years of experience as an early childhood educator. Although I thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the early childhood level, my true calling is in educating adolescents. I plan to teach Science at the Middle School level after completing my Bachelor degrees. Within the next five years, I also plan on furthuring my own education by attending Graduate school for my Ph.D in Astrobiology.

Unit Plan- W.H.S
This unit will review the molecular processes that occur within cells to translate and transcribe DNA, make proteins, and make new cells. Locations of these processes within the cell will also be reviewed as well as the products that result from it. This unit will also cover DNA replication during miosis and mitosis. The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with a deeper understanding of cell processes and products that are created by these cell processes. This lesson builds upon what students already know about living things and cells. Students have already aquired the idea that living things reproduce and grow. This unit will elaborate on these concepts by describing HOW these two processes occur.
This unit will be divided into five sections: introduction to genetics, DNA, RNA and Protein Synthesis, Human Heredity, and Genetic engineering.
